Sharief wins Veterans Day race

Grand Forks' Stephon Sharief won the eighth annual Veterans Day 8-kilometer race in Grand Forks.

Sharief finished 30 minutes, 46 seconds.

Ronnie Kyllo of Grand Forks was second in 30:49, followed by Grand Forks' Steve Burt in 31:07.

The top female finisher was Heather Smith of Audubon, Minn. She finished in 36:14. Second was Grand Forks' Danielle Thompson, who finished in 37:18.

GF players win

Several players from Grand Forks won titles at the Coca-Cola tennis tournament recently in Fargo.

Callie Ronkowski won at girls 18 singles and doubles and Lalangi Marasinghe won at 14 singles and doubles.

Mimi Yunker won along with Marasinghe at 14 doubles, Matt Fuka at 14 singles and Ryan Hoverson and Steven Halvorson at 14 doubles.

In the Lifetime Fitness girls tournament in Burnsville, Minn., recently, Yunker took first in the girls 12 singles.

Thompson's Samantha Anderson placed second in girls 14 singles.

Local bowlers

Grand Forks bowlers Zachary Richard and Travis Brune recently received USBC Certificates of Recognition for their team scores bowled in the Monday Junior Scratch league during the 2005-06 season.

Their scores were ranked in the 12-14 age division two-person team category. They were second in the team game with 469 and third in the team series with 1159.
